The Ballycotton lifeboat boarding boat launched to keep watch on swimmers taking to the water at Garryvoe beach for various charities on Christmas morning.  Conditions near the water's edge were slippy causing several swimmers to slipp and fall.  One unfortunate swimmer broke her ankle and required assistance.  Crewmember, Maria Morrison assisted before an ambulance arrived to take the casualty to hospital.

Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, gave assistance to a 33 metre catamaran in difficulties off Roches Point, at the mouth of Cork Harbour.  The Alman 2, with three persons aboard, had lost an engine and was experiencing steering difficulties.  It was advised that the vessel was also taking water and an immediate launch was requested.  When the Ballycotton lifeboat arrived on scene a pilot boat from Cork harbour was standing by.  Two lifeboat crewmembers were placed on board the stricken vessel and the situation was assessed.  A towline was established by the Ballycotton lifeboat and they headed for the deep water quay at Cobh.  Progress was slow due to the size of the vessel.    Crosshaven lifeboat launched at 23:45 to rendezvous with the Ballycotton lifeboat in order to assist with manoeuvring the catamaran safely alongside the deep water quay; successfully completing the operation at 00:15.  Both lifeboats returned to their stations ready for service again.

When walking down the pier, lifeboat 2nd Cox / 2nd Mechanic, Redmond Lane Walsh, observed a 10 ft dingy 1/2 mile south west of Ballycotton lighthouse.  Weather conditions were fresh at the time and the dingy appeared to be in difficulties.  LOM, John Tattan, authorised an immediate launch.  As the Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, approached the casualty he was seen waving his arms for attention.  The lone sailor was taken onboard the lifeboat and the dingy lashed to the lifeboat rails.  The casualty was found to have no lifejacket, emergency equipment, mobile phone or means of propulsion.  He was landed ashore, shaken but safe.

A local angling boat contacted Mine Head coastguard to advise that they had seen a body in the water in Ballycotton Bay.  Ballycotton lifeboat station was contacted and asked to launch.  The lifeboat boarding boat was launched and proceeded to the angling boat.  The body was retrieved from the water and transferred to the lifeboat boarding boat.  The deceased was brought to Ballycotton lifeboat house and the Gardai took over.

The Coasguard received a call for assistance from a 42 ft fishing vessel 3 miles south of Ballycotton lighthouse.  The Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, was requested to launch and attached a towline to the casualty.  The fishing vessel, with 2 persons on board, was safely towed to Ballycotton.

Valentia Coastguard Radio Station received a call that there was a diver missing off Roches Point at the mouth of Cork Harbour.  Ballycotton and Crosshaven RNLI lifeboats and the coastguard helicopter, Rescue 117, were launched to search the area.  The diver was quickly located by the Crosshaven lifeboat and safely taken from the sea.  He was placed aboard his diving vessel where his diving companion was anxiously waiting for him.

A member of the public contacted Ballycotton RNLI boathouse to voice her concerns for a swimmer off Garryvoe beach in Ballycotton Bay.  The RNLI lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, and the RNLI boarding boat were launched immediately.  A searched of the area was carried out and the swimmer was located.  She was taken on board the RNLI boarding boat and put safely ashore on Garryvoe beach at the lifeguard station.

The skipper of the 26 ft yacht ,Coquille, sought assistance at the lifeboat house from Cox, Ian Sheridan, as his yacht had broken its moorings in Ballycotton Bay and drifted onto the rocks.  He was taken in the RNLI lifeboat boarding boat and placed on board the yacht, which was then towed off rocks beneath the Bay View Hotel in Ballycotton and beached on the strand beside Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat house, where its damage could be assessed and repaired.

4 teenagers alerted the coastguard by mobile that they were unable to start their outboard engine and required assistance to return to shore.  Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, was immediately tasked.  The teenagers were located in a punt 1 mile north of Ballycotton and were safely returned to Ballycotton.

Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat station received a call that the MFV, Jacqueline Anne, was experiencing mechanical difficulties and was in need of assistance.  The crew pagers were activated at 09:45 and the Austin Lidbury took to sea.  They arrived at the casualty, 7 miles south east of Ballycotton, at 10:30 and established a towline.  The fishing vessel with three persons on board was towed to Ballycotton and safely secured at the pier wall.

2 persons were seen waving from the small island, just off Ballycotton, seeking assistance.  They were blown ashore by the increasing wind.  The crew pagers were activated from Ballycotton lifeboat house.  The lifeboat boarding boat was launched with crewmembers Peter O'Shea and Eolan Walsh to lend assistance.  The all weather lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, also launched.  Crewmember, Peter O'Shea, went ashore to help deflate the rubber dingy and carry it to the sheltered side of the island, where the boarding board could safely retrieve the casualties.  They were then transferred to the all weather lifeboat and taken to Ballycotton pier.

The LOM, John Tattan, received a message that a 5.5 m rib, with one person aboard, had broken down 2 miles west of Ballycotton lighthouse.  On slipping her moorings the crew of the Austin Lidbury were informed that the casualty had regained power and was motoring on its own steam.  The decision was taken to rendezvous and escort the casualty safely to Ballycotton.

Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat, Austin Lidbury launched at 18:45 to a sports cruiser, Targa, 4 1/5 miles south of Ballycotton.  The sports cruiser was on passage from Dublin to Kinsale when they ran into mechanical difficulties off Ballycotton.  The pleasure craft with two persons on board was towed to Crosshaven, arriving at 21:00.  Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat returned to station ready for service again at 23:00.

At 07:15 the pagers alerted the volunteer crew to proceed to the lifeboat house to lend assistance to a fishing vessel 17 miles from East South East of Ballycotton.  The Austin Lidbury slipped her moorings at 0730 and proceeded to the casualty.  A towline was established and the 44 ft vessel, Paulona, with three persons on board, was taken to Ballycotton where it was safely secured alongside the pier wall at 11:15.  The lifeboat was ready for service again at 12:00.
