A member of the public alerted the emergency services that red flares were seen in the Power Head / Inch Bay area. Crew pagers were activated and the Ballycotton Lifeboat slipped moorings at 20:22. She proceeded to the area with Crosshaven lifeboat being called to assist. A search was performed from Power Head, heading west towards the Harbour, then dropped south 2 cables and heading east back towards Power Head whilst Crosshaven searched  closer to shore. Cork Coastguard radio informed all SAR units that the red flares were confirmed as fireworks and all units stood down.

A member of the public alerted the emergency services advising they thought there was a vessel on fire in Ballycotton Bay.  At 17:50 the Ballycotton lifeboat crew pagers were activated and the all weather lifeboat Austin Lidbury was requested to launch.  In the meantime the sailor on board the vessel contacted someone on shore to advise that he was experiencing mechanical failure and was unable to  return to shore.  A red flare was lit to attract attention and another boat took the sailor on board.  The lifeboat boarding boat launched and off loaded the sailor and the vessel was brought safely to harbour.

A member of the public alerted the emergency services shortly before 5pm that an elderly family member was possibly missing at Garryvoe on the shore of Ballycotton Bay.  The Ballycotton lifeboat was put on standby while a search of the area was carried out.  At 17:10 the Ballycotton RNLI lifeboat was requested to launch. Having dropped the all weather lifeboat crew aboard the Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, in Ballycotton harbour the lifeboat boarding boat proceeded across Ballycotton Bay to carry out a search of the area close to the shore off Garryvoe.  At 18:35 reports were received that the elderly person was safe and well and the search was called off.

A member of the public contacted the emergency services to report seeing orange flares south of Roches Point.  The Ballycotton and Crosshaven lifeboats were requested to launch.  The Austin Lidbury slipped her moorings at 23:30 on 26/07/13 and proceeded to the area to carry out a search.  The Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, was also tasked and arrived on scene shortly after midnight and joined in the search. A thorough search of the area was carried out but nothing was found.  The search was called off and the lifeboats returned to station.

The Dutch registered sail training ship, Astrid, lost engine power near the Sovereigns off Kinsale and sent out a mayday alert.  The Tall Ship with 30 persons on board was unable to raise its sails fast enough in rough seas and hit the rocks.  RNLI lifeboats from Ballycotton, Crosshaven, Kinsale and Courtmacsherry were launched, as was the Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117.  12 persons were taken off by a vessel from Kinsale and the remaining 18 were taken on board the Courtmacsherry lifeboat.  All survivors were taken to Kinsale.  Ballycotton  was stood down when all persons were safely aboard other boats and the lifeboat returned to station.

While in the process of refuelling, the lifeboat crew were alerted to a problem with the skipper of a pleasure craft, Molly Daniel, in the harbour.  While out angling he damaged his shoulder and was in need of assistance.  The vessel was steered towards the pier where lifeboat crew members assisted him ashore.  He was taken to the lifeboat house and an ambulance was called.  The casualty was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, launched at 17:10 to assist an injured person on board a 42 ft yacht, 6 miles south west of Ballycotton.  The injured person was transferred from the yacht to the RNLI lifeboat  and taken to Ballycotton.  An ambulance was requested to meet the lifeboat at Ballycotton pier. The lifeboat with the casualty on board arrived at Ballycotton at 17:55 where he was assessed by medical personnel and taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.  Having escorted the casualty ashore the Ballycotton lifeboat rejoined the 42 foot yacht with two persons still on board and escorted it safely to harbour.

The Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, was launched at 13:40 to help in the search for a missing child on Ballinamona Strand in Ballycotton Bay.  The child had been playing on the shore when her family lost sight of her.  The emergency services were alerted and a search of the area commenced.  The all weather lifeboat commenced a search of the deeper waters off  Ballinamona Strand in Ballycotton Bay .  Also taking part in the search were the Ballycotton Coast Guard unit who commenced a search of the shore along with the Gardai and members of the public.  Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 116, was also launched.  At 13:58 reports were received that the child had been located on Garryvoe Beach by the lifeguard on duty and the search was called off.  The Ballycotton lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.  The Coast Guard helicopter was also stood down.

The lifeboat boarding boat was launched at 13:30 to lend assistance in the search for a missing child at Ballinamona Strand in Ballycotton Bay.  The child had been playing on the shore when her family lost sight of her.  The emergency services were alerted and a search of the area commenced.  The lifeboat boarding boat commenced a search of the water just off the beach.  Youghal lifeboat was also requested to launch to help search the area close to the shore.  The child was located at 13:58 on Garryvoe Beach by the lifeguard on duty and the search was called off.

Reports were received of a fishing vessel experiencing mechanical difficulties 20 miles off Ballycotton.  The lifeboat crew pagers were activated and the Austin Lidbury was launched at 14:20.  The Waterford based helicopter, Rescue 117, was en route to Crosshaven and they were diverted to the casualty to check all was in order.  They reported all was ok with casualty and advised them that the Ballycotton lifeboat was launched before departing the scene. On arrival at the casualty the Ballycotton lifeboat took the 21 foot vessel with 2 persons on board under tow to Ballycotton.

Ballycotton lifeboat launched at 17:15 on 6 July, to a 30 ft Irish registered vessel with mechanical difficulties 12 miles east of Ballycotton.  The vessel with 2 persons on board ran into difficulties and sought assistance.  The Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, arrived on scene at 17:50. The situation was assessed and a tow line was established.  The vessel was taken under tow to Ballycotton where it was safely secured alongside the pier wall at 20:00.

Ballycotton lifeboat crew observed a lone canoeist on the south side of the sound between the Ballycotton lighthouse and the small island off the shore.  The canoeist appeared to be tiring and it was decided to launch the all weather lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, to his assistance.  When they pulled alongside the canoeist he confirmed he was tiring but as he was not far from shore he decided to continue his efforts.  The lifeboat stood by until he reached the shore and then returned to station.

Valentia Coast Guard were notified that an EPIRP had been activated off Knockadoon Head, off the East Cork Coast.  The Ballycotton lifeboat crew pagers were activated at 10:45am.  The Austin Lidbury launched and proceeded to the scene.  Youghal lifeboat was also launched. The Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, was tasked.  The Youghal lifeboat found the boat in Youghal bay.  The skipper was unaware the EPIRP had been activated and discovered there was a fault.  The rescue services were stood down and the Ballycotton lifeboat returned to harbour.

A search of the shore was taking place at low tide for a missing person.  The coastguard contacted the lifeboat station that they could see a body in the water and requested assistance.  It was decided to take the station boarding boat as they could get closer to the shore where the body was spotted.  The body was recovered from the water and transferred to the all weather lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, and the boarding boat returned to station.

A search of the shore was taking place at low tide for a missing person.  The coastguard contacted the lifeboat station that they could see a body in the water and requested assistance.  The all weather lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, launched and proceeded to the scene.  The deceased was taken on board the lifeboat and returned to Ballycotton.

The station was requested to have a look at Garryvoe Strand as it was thought there may be a person stranded there.  The station boarding boat went across the bay to check out the report but found nothing.  They returned to station.

The Coastguard requested the area to be searched for the missing person from Ballycotton to Ballyandreen. The boarding boat was launched and a search of the shallow water close to the shore between Ballycotton and Ballyandreen was carried but without success.  They returned to station.

The Coastguard requested the area to be searched for the missing person from Ballycotton to Ballyandreen.  The Austin Lidbury carried out an extensive  search of the area off shore but without success.  They returned to station.

A member of the public reported a suspicious object in the water off Ballyandreen, west of Ballycotton, to the emergency services and Ballycotton lifeboat was requested to check it out.  The Austin Lidbury and also the lifeboat boarding boat launched at 20:45 but found it was only a log floating in the water.  A search was carried out of the area for the person missing since the evening of the 9th April but was called off for the night.

The Austin Lidbury launched at 08:00 with a fresh crew to resume the search for the missing person off Ballyandreen, west of Ballycotton.  The Guileen and Ballycotton Coast Guard units searched the shore throughout the day.  The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, joined the search in the afternoon.  The extensive search was unsuccessful and called off at 15:45.  The Austin Lidbury returned to station.

At 22:05 Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, launched to help search the area off Ballyandreen, east of Cork Harbour, for a person reported missing.  The Ballycotton Coast Guard unit was tasked, as was the Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, and the Guileen Coast Guard unit.  As members of the Coast Guard searched the shoreline for the missing person, the RNLI lifeboat searched off shore with the assistance of flares to light up the area.  The Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene at approx. 23:30 to join in the search. The coastal area between Ballycotton and Ballyandreen was searched but to no avail.  At 00:30 the search was called off for the night and the Austin Lidbury returned to station.

A lone sailor contacted the emergency services in the early hours of 25 March, 38 miles east south east of Ballycotton.  The 6.5 metre vessel was on passage from the UK when the yachtsman experienced difficulties and sought assistance.  The Ballycotton lifeboat, Austin Lidbury, launched at 3:45am and proceeded to the vessel. Sea conditions in the area at the time were rough, with a F. 4 / 5 easterly wind blowing.  The lifeboat arrived on scene at 05:25am and placed two lifeboat crew members aboard the yacht.  The lone yachtsman was transferred to the lifeboat where his condition was assessed and the decision made to have him air lifted to hospital.  The Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, was launched and rendezvoused with the lifeboat at 06:50am, approximately 25 miles off Ballycotton. The sailor was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment. The 6.5 metre yacht continued under its own sail with two volunteer lifeboat crew members on board.  The yacht was escorted to Ballycotton where it was safely secured alongside the pier wall.
